Matrix Applications is proud to introduce Seashell, the 2025 summer intern project.

The goal of this project is to create a standardized framework for web applications at Matrix. It provides a reference framework that simplifies the on-boarding process for new projects and reduces the cost of maintenance. It incorporates foundational functionality like Single Sign-On (SSO) for enhanced security aligned with modern authentication standards. This project is designed to accelerate innovation by centralizing key fundamental features, enabling faster iteration and compounding improvements over time. It pioneers the shift toward modern, open-source technologies while maintaining the data integrity and security protocols already in place— creating a safe playground for AI-forward experimentation and future development.

It also included the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that could be used for self-service-help. With a strong emphasis on identifying the safest and most effective solution for Matrix. The project focused on ensuring data safety and reducing exposure to risk.

Under the guidance of Victor Wong, Junior Software Engineer at Matrix Applications, Tyler Lam and Indraneel Vaka, our Summer 2025 interns, were at the forefront of the research and development of this AI chatbot that serves as a help center with a custom trained Large Language Model (LLM). One of the most notable achievements was the creation of a multi-layered data processing system designed to securely handle sensitive information without any external exposure. Their contributions included designing responsive user interfaces, implementing secure login features, and building a Jira monitoring dashboard—taking the project from initial Figma designs all the way through to full implementation. They gained experience in full-stack development using Angular, Spring Boot, Postgres, Java, JavaScript, git, SSO, and various other technologies.

"We’re always excited to have new interns during the summer. While we are teaching them about and introducing them to the fixed income technology world, we also learn much from them. It’s a way for us to bring up the next generation and grow alongside them," said Jason Walsh, VP of Software Engineering at Matrix Applications.

Richard Glaze, VP of Software Engineering at Matrix Applications, commented on the summer saying, "It's been a pleasure having Tyler and Indraneel spend the summer with us here at Matrix Applications. Not only did the project provide Tyler and Indraneel exposure to relevant industry technologies, but it also provided Matrix with a reference playground that will have lasting impact on our company. The project has been a huge success, and Tyler and Indraneel should be congratulated for the work that they've accomplished this summer."
