Robert Neese, a rising Senior at Binghamton University, reflects on his 2022 Summer Internship at Matrix Applications.
Why did you choose Matrix Applications for your internship?
I chose Matrix Applications for my internship due to my previous experiences with the company. I have interned here since 2018 and have been able to witness the company’s growth. The culture and people are what make the internship experience so impactful. There is so much to learn from the immense experience from the Matrix team. Everyone is so willing to and able to help, guide and teach.
What did you enjoy most about your internship?
Following the previous question, the people at Matrix are what make the experience here so impactful. Everyone is excited to teach the nature of the business from a wholistic perspective. I have experienced many people walking me through what they do and why they do it, over the course of their day.
The office environment is welcoming, friendly, and almost like a family. I also enjoyed the freedom I was given in my work. I was encouraged to approach problems from new directions. From this, I was able to implement solutions to problems that may not have been explored.
What was the biggest takeaway?
Throughout my internship, I have been able to explore the financial technology industry, and utilize my knowledge from my studies to improve some processes at the company. This has shown me the importance of automation implementation and constant innovation in this industry. While this has been discussed in many classes I have taken, witnessing the constant innovation firsthand was a breath of fresh air.
What was one of the most valuable projects you worked on?
This summer, I was brought on to assist in automation of company processes, specifically the process of extracting information from financial reports for internal use. These automation projects have enabled me to utilize my skills with programming and data analysis.
